Demi Lovato Gets Shockingly Honest About the First Time She Tried Cocaine

The truth isn’t always pretty… but that’s not something Demi Lovato really cares about. With that being said, the “Tell Me You Love Me” singer is a big believer in the old saying, “Honesty is the best policy,” and it certainly shows.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 25-year-old musician opened up about why she decided to be so honest with the public, especially her loyal legion of fans. The Disney Channel alum revealed in the interview that she knew that she could use her voice for so much more than singing and if it takes airing her dirty laundry out to the public to help others from making the same mistakes she has made, well, so be it.

“I lay it out on the line and I’m very, very honest,” she said. “When I share things with my fans, I want it to be honest and real, so I do. I share all of that with them.” One of those shockingly honest confessions is the one she makes in her documentary about trying cocaine for the first time and how much she “loved it” when she was only 17 years old.

When talking about that confession with ET, Demi said being that honest is what people really need to hear and understand. “That’s the type of honesty that people need to hear in order to protect themselves from possibly going down that road, because drugs and alcohol [are] so tempting,” the pop star said. “There are times where you are faced with the choice of, ‘Do I do this, or do I not do this?’ and I want to prevent my fans from going through the things that I’ve been through.” That’s honestly such an admirable thing to do.

Another thing she’s totally cool with being honest about? Her sexuality. While the “Sorry not Sorry” singer has teased before to get a more in-depth answer on whether or not she’s bisexual by watching her YouTube documentary, on the night of her premiere, Demi talked to Extra about being open to dating both men and women.

When the interviewer asked D.Lo how and when she came to realization of looking for a human connection as opposed to looking to date just one specific gender, Demi simply said, “That’s how I’ve always felt.” Doesn’t that just make you love her even more?
