Daniel Radcliffe Dismisses Role in ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off, ‘Fantastic Beasts…’
Sorry, Potterheads, but Daniel Radcliffe will not be a part of the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Actually, NONE of the Big Three — which includes Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as well — are tapped to make an appearance in the developing series.
The 24-year-old star, who made his fortune as part of the mega-watt franchise, confirms, "Needless to say I wouldn't be involved, and I guess none of the others will be, but I know nothing about it."
Recently, Daniel revealed a similar attitude about returning to the world heralded by J.K. Rowling: "It'd take a LOT of talking round. I've done so much work to establish myself as something outside that series, I'd be really hesitant to go back. Even if they were set later in time. I'm 23, which is too old to be running round in a school boy's cape." Plus Fantastic Beasts is set 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter series, so this shouldn't exactly come as a big surprise to the fandom.
In case you're not familiar with the spin-off, it's based on one of Harry's textbooks, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as it's author, Newt Scamander. Rowling said in a statement, "It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."
Despite probably already understanding why Daniel and the rest of the gang couldn't be a part of the rejuvenation of the franchise, are you bummed you won't see the Big Three on the big screen together again? WDYT of Fantastic Beasts' plot so far? We wanna know your thoughts!
