All the Actors Who Auditioned for Crazy Rich Asians But Didn’t Get a Part

Crazy Rich Asians isn’t even in theaters yet, but it’s already receiving rave reviews. As of press time, the romantic dramedy has a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Do you know how rare that is?? Well… we guess it’s not as rare as an American movie comprised of an all-Asian cast, but still, it’s extremely hard to come by. That’s why basically every Asian actor in Hollywood auditioned for the project. We have proof!

Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong — these are all familiar stars who tried out for the flick, and got ’em. Silicon Valley star Jimmy O. Yang also scored a gig — but not the one he originally wanted. He told NPR that, before he won the role of Bernard Tai, he told his manager he wanted to read for the lead part, which was eventually filled by Henry Golding. It didn’t work out how Jimmy OG planned, but he knows it’s still a big deal that he’s a part of the production.

These six Asian actors, however, wanted to star in Crazy Rich Asians, but got ZILCH. Hey, we can only hope that CRA paves the way for many other Asian-filled movies so that everyone gets another shot!

Crazy Rich Asians hits theaters on Wednesday, August 15.
