Condom Snorting is Latest Viral Trend That’ll Have You Saying, “WTF?!”

By  |

We wish we could say that teenagers AREN’T snorting condoms up their noses, but alas, here we are and, yes, you read that correctly. Apparently, what was once a trend of the past — like, from four years ago — is making a comeback.

Condom snorting — no, we aren’t making this up — is a trend in which kids are literally snorting condoms up their noses and pulling them out of their mouths. Thank goodness there’s a better crazy challenge to do because we were getting bored now that Tide Pods have redesigned their packaging so kids can’t get to them. (For the record, we’re being totally sarcastic.)

Anyway, Stephen Enriquez, a state education specialist in San Antonio visited a school to warn parents about not only the dangers of drugs and alcohol, but also the dangers of crazy Internet trends. “As graphic as it is, we have to show parents because teens are going online looking for challenges and recreating them,” the specialist said of the born-again fad.

Emergency physician Dr. Robert Glatter also spoke about the dangers of the challenge, even if you’re successful at it. “Even if you successfully complete the challenge and pull the condom out your mouth, the bottom line is that it’s incredibly irritating and a good chance it will wreak havoc on your sinuses, nasal passages, and upper airway,” he warned. “These should be reasons enough to discourage you from attempting this dangerous challenge.”

But let’s be real for one second here: Is this trend reeeeally back? Or are adults just desperate to find another crazy thing teens are doing to reprimand them? While some media outlets claim there are new viral videos of teenagers trying this, they actually can’t be found.

According to the myth-busting site Snopes, it’s totally untrue that kids these days are bringing the old challenge back to life. “YouTube videos, mostly dating from 2013, capture young people inhaling condoms into their nostrils as part of a so-called ‘condom snorting challenge,'” the website states. “Despite an uptick in media hand-wringing over the alleged ‘craze’ in 2018, few people appeared to have attempted it since the challenge first went viral in 2013.”

But who can be really sure, right? Maybe these wild teens are just sending each other these condom snorting videos on Snapchat so that the evidence can just disappear into thin air.
