Cole Sprouse Cast as Lead in New Romantic Drama Five Feet Apart

Cole Sprouse is coming back to the big screen for the first time in, like, forever. Variety confirms that the 25-year-old actor has been cast as the lead in the upcoming romantic drama film Five Feet Apart and we could NOT be more excited.

The Riverdale actor will be playing one half of a young couple that falls in love, even though they are both living with serious illnesses. And even though this flick sounds like The Fault in Our Stars 2.0, The Hollywood Reporter assures people it’s “uplifting and about the people who help make every moment count as well as the transcendent power of love.”

Jane the Virgin‘s Justin Baldoni is set to direct the film.

Cole is known for his television roles, obviously killing it right now as Jughead Jones on Riverdale and rising to fame as Cody Martin on Disney Channel’s Suite Life. He did star in movies like Big Daddy and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus when he was young, but his Five Feet Apart gig will mark the first time he returns to the big screen in his adult career.

Cole and his twin, Dylan Sprouse, both took lengthy breaks from Hollywood so they could go to college and attempt to live a “normal” life for a little bit.

“I needed to take a break and step outside myself. I needed a dose of reality and I needed to see myself in a more objective point of view,” CS told Entertainment Weekly last year. “And now I think I can enjoy [acting], which is a really fundamental part about being an actor.”

We can’t wait to not only find out more about Five Feet Apart, but also who else is going to appear in it. But based on preliminary info, it sounds amazing!
