The Originals Star & Longtime Love Split… One Day Before Anniversary
We’re sure there are a lot of celebrations going on among the cast of The Vampire Diaries, what with the recent news that leading man Paul Wesley reunited with his longtime love, The Originals‘ Phoebe Tonkin, and other leading man Ian Somerhalder is expecting a baby with wife Nikki Reed. Sadly, not all of the members are doing so well in the relationship department right now.
According to People, Claire Holt, who portrayed Original vampire Rebekah Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, and her husband, Matthew Kaplan, are headed for divorce. The film producer reportedly filed for the dissolution of their marriage on April 27 — one day before what would’ve been their one-year wedding anniversary, April 28. Soon after, the 28-year-old Aussie actress filed her own paperwork. As far as anyone publicly knows, “irreconcilable differences” is the reason behind the split.
Everything about their relationship happened quickly. They started dating in April 2014, got engaged in July 2015, then, nine months later, walked down the aisle. What a difference a year makes, huh?
Claire Holt, plus five other TVD stars who had short engagements before their weddings:
Love came for the blonde Aussie, who played Rebekah Mikaelson, after she left TVD (for The Originals). In April 2014, three months after her last episode, she hooked up with film producer Matt Kaplan for the first time (publicly, anyway).
Shortly over a year later, in July 2015, Matt popped the question... but it took far less than a year after that to walk down the aisle. Nine months, to be precise. In April 2016, Claire posted a photo of the bride & groom kissing, along with the caption, "Mr and Mrs Kaplan. Thank you to our beautiful families for making the day so special."
