Christina Grimmie’s Parents Blame More Than Just the Shooter for Her Death

Of all the WTF celebrity moments of 2016, the death of Christina Grimmie was, by far, the most shocking. While it’s always sad to hear about anyone accidentally overdosing or succumbing to a fatal disease, the 22-year-old YouTube sensation passed away after she was shot post-performance — you can’t get more W-T-F status than that. (At least… we hope you can’t.)

After the June 10th incident in Orlando, FL, details about the murderer, Kevin Loibl, who killed himself after killing the talent, came to the surface, particularly his obsession with the alum from The Voice. TMZ reported that, according to his co-workers, the 27-year-old man was so captivated by the “With Love” singer, he physically altered his body so that she would “someday be his wife.”

But, despite all the information on the attacker and the fact that he acted out this horrible plan alone, Christina’s parents aren’t only holding the deranged man accountable for the tragic events.

According to Us Weekly, Albert & Tina Grimmie filed a lawsuit against AEG Live over the fatal shooting. “The death of Christina was caused by the negligent and culpable conduct of the defendants who failed to provide adequate security measures to protect Christina at the Plaza Live Theater on June 10, 2016,” the family says in the suit. The defendants, including Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, which owns the venue, “failed to take adequate security measures to ensure the safety of the performers and the attendees at the concert venue,” adding that only “superficial bag checks” were performed. In their eyes, had the proper precautions been taken, then this tragedy could’ve been avoided.

Christina reportedly “provided financial support to her parents” and also to her brother, Marcus, who served as one of her co-tour managers. The family’s requesting the projected income after taxes the late star would have provided had she lived to a normal life expectancy. They’re also asking for medical and funeral expenses to be reimbursed, as well as compensation for the physical, mental and emotional trauma they experienced due to the loss.
Christina Grimmie is one of at least nine celebrities who shockingly passed away this year:
