Cheryl Slams Rumors That Her Mom Was the Reason She & Liam Payne Split

Cole Fernandez-Versini announced their breakup over the weekend, but assured everyone that they still “have so much love for each other as a family.” The split seemed to be a mutual decision made by two adults who love and respect each other, but rumors quickly started flying that the 35-year-old’s mom, Joan Callaghan, was actually the reason for the separation.
The woman reportedly drove a wedge between the musicians, who have a 1-year-old son named Bear, ultimately causing them to break up. But, according to the former Girls Aloud singer herself, her mother had absolutely nothing to do with the couple’s demise.
“I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam,” Cheryl tweeted yesterday. “I don’t know why they involve her in stories about me. I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it.”
She continued, “I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life. She is a soft and kind woman who doesn’t deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with her.”

Interestingly enough, it was Joan who first got the pregnancy speculation going, buying multiple items for an expectant mother back in September 2016.
The “Bedroom Floor” singer previously admitted that his relationship with Cheryl had its ups and downs, so it’s more than likely this caused the split, not her mom.
