Charlie Puth Confirms Selena Gomez Fling… and It Didn’t End Well

We kinda had a feeling that the fling between Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez didn’t end well after her put a portrait of her in the music video for “How Long,” a song all about infidelity, but didn’t think we’d ever get confirmation. Fortunately for us, the 26-year-old singer decided he was done keeping his lips sealed and finally spoke out about the short-lived romance… and how tumultuously it ended.

The “Attention” singer chatted with Billboard about his duet with the Disney Channel alum, “We Don’t Talk Anymore” and when their ~secret~ coupling ended.

“It’s about a particular moment in my life, when someone very close to me wanted the attention of somebody else,” he said about the tune. “When I found that out and we ended it, I might have done some shady things too, and she might have asked me, ‘How long has this been going on?'”

He continued, “I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes. And that’s what was happening [with Selena]. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up. I’m trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in — what I was getting myself into.”

While he didn’t name names, it’s pretty clear that the other person on SelGo’s mind was Justin Bieber, who he dissed hardcore during a March 2016 concert.

“F*ck you, Justin Bieber,” he yelled as he was performing “WDTA” in Dallas, Texas.

Charlie previously explained that the track was created after Sel went over his house at “2 o’clock in the morning and recorded [it] in a makeshift recording booth in the closet.”
