Charlie Heaton Drug Bust + Love Child Revealed on Stranger Things Weekend

UPDATE: Charlie Heaton has apologized for the incident. “My planned travel to the U.S. last week was affected by an issue at U.S. immigration, and I am working to rectify it as soon as possible,” he told People. “I do want to clarify that I was not arrested or charged with a crime, and cooperated fully with the U.S. officials at LAX. I’m sorry to all the fans and my Stranger Things family for missing the premiere. We are all so proud of this season and I would never want this story to negatively impact the show.”
This weekend marked a time for celebration for 99% of the Stranger Things cast. Over a year after the series premiere on Netflix, Season 2 finally debuted!

However, we’re here to talk about that remaining 1%: Charlie Heaton. The 23-year-old British actor had a couple of ~strange~ things revealed about him around the very time of the sci-fi drama’s release. 1. He was busted for drugs at the airport. 2. He reportedly has a secret love child.

On Friday, October 27, TMZ reported that the man who plays Jonathan Byers on the hit program flew into LAX on Saturday, October 21 from London, but was denied entry to the U.S. because, upon a random baggage check, law enforcement found trace amounts of cocaine in his bag.

Since Charlie had no previous record, he was allowed to escape without arrest, but was forced to withdraw his application to enter the country. So, rather than be around for the Season 2 premiere party — which was held on Thursday, October 26 — he was back in London.

Though Charlie has yet to comment on the situation, his mother, Michelle Lowe, claimed (via Daily Mail), “All that rubbish, it’s completely fabricated. I know that but that’s all I’m allowed to say on it. He’s never done drugs in the past. It’s completely made up, that’s what papers do. I’m not his agent, I’m just his mum, so I can’t really say too much.”

“He is sort of between here, London and America,” she continued. “It would be awful if he wasn’t allowed back to America to film, but I don’t see it shouldn’t be. He has proven his innocence. It could happen to any of us, you go to a bar or a party. It’s just unfortunate really. I know that’s what has happened. I hope it blows over.”

To make matters even more… interesting, word has it that the actor also has a secret love child with his ex-girlfriend, Akiko Matsuura. Akiko reportedly got pregnant in May 2014, when the pair were in the rock band Comanechi together.

“Charlie became a dad when he was just 20, The Sun reported. “He met Akiko when he was just a teen and fell head over heels in love. They’re no longer together, but they have an amicable relationship for the boy’s sake. Right now Charlie’s career is his priority, but he hopes to see more of his son once filming commitments calm down.”

As far as anyone knows, Charlie is still dating his Stranger Things co-star, Natalia Dyer, who managed to make it to the S2 premiere on Thursday night. Though neither has confirmed their relationship, they were spotted holding hands earlier this month in New York City.
