13 Celebrity Couples That Made Their Red-Carpet Debut at the Met Gala
May 8, 2018
When it comes to fashion, we all know that the
is the place to be. However, fashion statements are hardly the only statements made on the Met Gala Met Gala red carpet. That’s right, folks! Each year you can pretty much guarantee that a hot new couple will make its debut for the very first time and, TBH, we live for it!
It seems like this year, more than any other year that came before it, new couples hit the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City not only to
dress glamorously, but to confirm, once and for all, that they’re officially an item. Still, stuff like this happens every year, and the truth of the matter is, several famous couples made their debut at the Met. Wondering who? Well, look no further because we’ve got ’em all right here:

Shawn Mendes & Hailey Baldwin
As we all know, rumors have been swirling for several months that
and Shawn Mendes are dating. But, despite reports that the two have gotten cozy at parties and have even been on many dates together, the two never confirmed that they're an item. That is, until yesterday's Met Gala, when they stepped onto the red carpet... Hailey Baldwin together!
Shawn and Hailey just about looked like the happiest couple on the whole carpet, and they both looked AH-mazing! Shawn looked dapper AF in a maroon suit, while Hailey looked like an absolute goddess in a silvery gown with pink hair and a flower crown. In other words, they couldn't have looked more perfect for their first red carpet as a couple and we're

Bughead and Sprousehart fans have been wondering what the deal is between
and Lili Reinhart for MONTHS, but at last night's Met Gala, it seems they finally Cole Sprouse confirmed all of our suspicions that the on-screen loves are dating IRL, too.
The two made a huge statement on their first red carpet as a couple, with Cole looking sharp in a long black coat and cropped trousers, and Lili on his arm in a silver H&M dress with a long train. Yup, they definitely arrived at the event knowing they would be the couple everyone would be buzzing about, and we can't get over how cute they are! Sprousehart's never been so real!

Travis Scott & Kylie Jenner

After remaining super secretive throughout her entire pregnancy, fans of reality star and makeup mogul
are happy to get a glimpse of her and her BF, Kylie Jenner , any chance they get. That's why fans of the new parents were completely shook to see them walking yesterday evening's carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art... Travis Scott TOGETHER.
Even though we already knew that Kylie and Travis were a couple, this still totally counts as their red-carpet debut, and the couple looked like the coolest mom-dad duo we've ever seen in our whole lives. Hopefully, there will be a lot more red carpets in the future for this couple, but until then we'll just be sitting here... waiting.

David Foster & Katharine McPhee
It's safe to say that fans of
Katharine McPhee, who's currently starring on Broadway in the show Waitress, were surprised to see her step out onto the red carpet at this year's Met Ball and confirm her relaysh with legendary music producer David Foster. If that name sounds at all familiar, it's probably because David is Gigi and Bella Hadid's former stepfather.
34-year old Katharine stepped onto the red carpet in a gorgeous sheer blue gown, and she even got real about her current relationship status with the 68-year-old, saying that they were out having a "fun date night." That's all the confirmation we needed. Thanks, guys!

Elon Musk & Grimes
Of all the couples to make their red carpet debut at last night's event, none were nearly as confusing as
Elon Musk and musician Grimes. Apparently, the two have been quietly dating for a little bit over a month and literally no one knew about it. Hmm... imagine that!
Elon, who is the 57th richest person in the world, showed up at the Met Gala red carpet for what appeared to be date night with his new lady. While it was somewhat shocking to see these two coupled up, when it came to the fashion, they were sadly overshadowed by, well, almost every other couple there. Yeah... we're just not feeling whatever look they were going for, but, hey... at least they're happy!

Selena Gomez & The Weeknd
We know there were a
ton of new couples making their debut at this year's Met Ball, but last year, the hot new couple to walk the carpet was none other than and — you guessed it — Selena Gomez . The two were very affectionate as they walked the famous steps, flirting and kissing each other whenever they got the chance. The Weeknd
Since then, however, we can all agree that a lot of things have changed. Last October, the couple split and Sel went back to
dating , which ultimately Justin Bieber didn't work out this time around either. Still, Sel and The Weeknd seemed very much in love on the carpet at last year's Met Ball, and even though it didn't work out in the end, it's still one of the most memorable red carpet debuts in recent Met Gala history.

Alex Rodriguez & Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez looked absolutely stunning at this year's Met Gala, but it's important to remember that this isn't the first time they've attended the star-studded event. That's right! Last year, the adorable pair made their red-carpet debut at the gala and, based on last night, it seems like the relationship has been thriving ever since!
When the two stopped on the carpet to reflect on the past year with
ET, they described it as "awesome" and an "amazing year." We don't know about you, but we're so glad these two are so happy. Not to mention, they're insanely gorgeous and just so happen to be our couple goals, but that's neither here nor there.

Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik

Selena and The Weeknd and J.Lo and A-Rod may have been the talk of the town at the 2017 Met Gala, but one year earlier, fans of
and Gigi Hadid were shocked that the new couple hit up the red carpet for the first time ever at the Met. Zayn Malik
The theme of the event in 2016 was "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," and we'll never forget how the new couple stunned on the carpet. Zayn even showed up wearing armor! Unfortunately,
the couple has since split almost two years later and Gigi showed up to the event with her dress designer as her date, so it's safe to say she's living the single life right now. (Or maybe not, depending on how you interpret these pictures of Gigi & Zayn making out last month.)

Robert Pattinson & FKA Twigs
and Robert Pattinson FKA Twigs stepped foot on the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala, it was a BIG deal. Why? Because not only was it their first time walking a red carpet together as a couple, but it was also their first time walking a red carpet as an ! engaged couple
That's right! Before proposing, Rob and FKA never walked a carpet together, and to be able to do so for the first time at the Met was extremely special. Unfortunately, the two
called things off in October 2017, so they didn't make it in the long run. Still, we're sure they'll never forget that evening because, after all, it was their first experience at the Met Gala ever, which is pretty amazing if you ask us!

Hannah Davis & Derek Jeter
By the time
Hannah Davis and Derek Jeter made their red-carpet debut in 2015, pretty much everyone knew they were dating. Before showing up on the carpet that night, the beautiful couple had been together for a whopping three years already. We know... three years and no carpet?! Shocking!
Sports Illustrated model stunned in red alongside her baseball legend beau, and the best part is that, somehow, after three years of dating on and off, this was only the beginning! The following year, the couple made it official and tied the knot and, clearly, they're a picture-perfect couple. Wouldn't you agree?

Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds

and Blake Lively were surprised to find out that the couple got married in 2012, after only one year of dating. However, what's even more surprising is the fact that they never posed on a red carpet together. That is, until May 2014, when they attended the Met Gala together, giving everyone a sigh of relief. Ryan Reynolds
A year later, Blake opened up to
Allure about their decision to arrive at the glamorous event together. She said, "It was the first time we were ever on the red carpet together. It was scary to put yourself out there like that, but then it also seems really silly to be standing five feet from each other and refusing to stand together. It's always that tricky balance of keeping your privacy but then also not being absurd." The couple has attended many red carpets since and, in case you didn't already know, they look flawless at every single one.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds may have been the only married couple to make their red carpet debut at the Met Gala in 2014, but they certainly weren't the only couple!
Sarah Silverman and actor Michael Sheen also hit the red carpet together that year, just a few months after they started dating. Little did we know that the couple would actually be together for years to come!
Almost four years after their initial debut, Sarah and Michael called it quits in February of this year. Even though they went their separate ways, we have to admit, we'll always remember the moment they put their new relaysh on display for the world to see at one of New York's most high-profile events.

Lindsey Vonn & Tiger Woods

After keeping their relationship tightly under wraps for a while, Olympian
Lindsey Vonn and golfer Tiger Woods hit the red carpet at the 2013 Met Ball as a couple, just two months after Lindsey officially confirmed the rumored relaysh on Facebook.
The post, which she wrote in March of that year, said, "I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods." Two years later, though, the athletic couple broke up. Considering the fact that their red-carpet debut took place just a few years after his cheating scandal and divorce, it was a huge deal, and for the two years they were dating, people simply couldn't look away.
