7 Celebrities Who Were Diagnosed with the Same Life-Threatening Disease
Although Selena Gomez once misspoke and said she “was going through leukemia” when she checked into rehab in early 2014, the 24-year-old beauty had actually just been diagnosed with lupus and had to get chemotherapy treatments to get it under control.
“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” she told Billboard magazine. “That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a**holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Sadly, the “Hands to Myself” singer isn’t the only star who’s battling the life-threatening autoimmune disease; in fact, Sel is simply the most recent celebrity to be diagnosed with lupus. To see which other famous men and women suffer from the illness, scroll through the gallery below.
When Selena checked into rehab in early 2014, she claimed it was so she could "spend some time on [herself]." While the "Hands to Myself" singer really did go to an in-patient facility, her reasoning wasn't 100 percent factual. Turns out, the 24-year-old was actually diagnosed with lupus, and was undergoing intensive treatment.
"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy," she said in Billboard magazine. "That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."
Later, Sel also revealed that shortly after receiving her diagnosis, she "was in the ICU for two and a half weeks," but has since gotten the disease under control.
