Camila Cabello’s “Consequences” Vid is Both Romantic AND Heartbreaking
Camila Cabello admitted that choosing “Consequences” as her latest single was a “risky” decision, but without any risk there cannot be any reward. The 21-year-old singer performed the beautiful ballad at the American Music Awards last night and released the music video, which stars Dylan Sprouse, just hours later. And, as you can probably guess if you’ve ever heard the tune, the vid is equal parts romantic and absolutely heartbreaking.
Cam said when she was coming up with the MV’s concept she “thought of how it felt trying to let someone go [and] seeing the memories and traces of them in every familiar place.”
“I remembered the Pablo Neruda quote… ‘loving is so short, forgetting is so long…’ and the journey of moving on,” she explained. “That was what inspired this story. It’s really close to my heart, and the most excited I’ve ever been about making a video.”
In the vid, we see a present-day Camila walking through the park as she reflects on a failed relationship. We see her thinking about the good times, including playing the piano, going on cute dates, etc., and the bad, such as when her ex, played by Dylan, got so drunk that he could barely stand up straight (“glasses on the sink, they didn’t fix you“).
This video is extremely personal and close to Camila’s heart, which is totally apparent in the emotions that come through.
She says of the video, “This is what it looked like in my brain while I was trying to move on.”
