Here’s Why Fans Think Camila Cabello is Starring in the West Side Story Remake

Camila Cabello may be taking her powerful vocals from the stage to the big screen as she’s rumored to be up for a role in the remake of the iconic movie-musical, West Side Story.

When renowned film director Steven Spielberg puts out a casting call for his current film project, it’s only necessary to seek out the best possible option for the role, right? That’s why fans are itching to see the 20-year-old try out her acting chops on the big screen in the upcoming West Side Story flick, adapted by Tony Kushner.

News of the major casting remake hit just a few weeks ago when a casting call began to circulate the Interwebs, calling for actors to fill the roles of Tony, Maria, Anita and Bernardo. The flyer also specified that white actors will be considered for Tony’s role and that Latina actors for the roles of Maria, Anita and Bernardo, keeping true to the original story, along with a few other criteria.

It didn’t take long for fans to put in their two cents as to who should be cast for the role, but leave it to Joseph Kahn, the Taylor Swift music video master, to put the Cam juju out into cyberspace.

Fans have flocked Joseph’s page, questioning if he knows something more than the rest of us, as well as the account which first posted the casting call, hoping that Camila will get the chance to star in her first debut film.

The original 1961 film went on to win 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, so it makes perfect sense to cast only the best of the best. Not to mention the fact that the former Fifth Harmony member can sing, dance, fits the age range, and is Latina! Your move, Spielberg!
