Survivor Tocantins Sees Second Consecutive Blindside…

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

Usually, you hate to see people get blindsided. Especially someone who thought they had an alliance with other people involved in the game. In the case of Survivor Tocantins this week, the blindside was a sweet one! If you saw last weeks episode, you probably were expecting Sierra to be the next to go, and Tyson pretty much guaranteed it. Tyson being one of the strongest competitors in the game, made the ‘Frank “The Entertainer”‘ mistake and let his mouth run on autopilot a bit too much.

This ultimately got his ass voted off the show. Even Sierra was shocked that this fool got more votes than her own. Now, you’d expect for Sierra to be the next to go, again. But you really can’t assume anything at this point in the game.

Like CSI and Law & Order? Try Fringe….

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

I, like most people am guilty of being sucked into hours of Law & Order and CSI reruns at a time! I’m actually not really a big fan of the whole crime solving genre! But you don’t have to be a fan to know that the airwaves are filled with crime solving series. Theses series are generally the same. The twist that they have don’t differ from eachother all that much. If that floats your boat, cool! I’ve got another interesting show to add to your DVR list.

Fringe…Airs on FOX on Tuesday evenings.

The twist on this show startled me in the beginning. It had an eerie feeling, and you knew something would happen. But the moment and graphic nature caught me off gaurd. I thought I was watching a damn movie at first. So it’s still crime solving related, but it’s filled with explosive action that is worth the hour of kicking back on the couch…..

‘Eclipse’ Has Found a Director!

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

Summit Entertainment has found a director for Eclipse, the third film in The Twilight Saga: David Slade.

Slade directed the 2007 vampire flick 30 Days of Night, as well as the mega-disturbing Ellen Page/Patrick Wilson indie Hard Candy.

Summit looks to be going with a one-director-per-film rule, which is reasonable given the planned release schedule: New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, comes out this November, and then Eclipse comes out the following summer, only seven months later.

By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, check out the official photo and our video feature on New Moon’s Wolf Pack.

A New Live-Action ‘Ninja Turtles’ Movie!

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

The Ninja Turtles have been around for twenty-five years now, and coinciding with the anniversary is the Mirage Group’s official announcement that they’ll be moving forward on a live-action reboot of the franchise.

Mirage also produced 2007’s computer-animated TMNT movie.  It was a relative success, making more than $50 million, but it left them wondering whether they should make a direct sequel or go for a different type of reboot.

Producer Scott Mednick says the movie will draw from the original set of Ninja Turtle comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and that it may use “face replacement technology” — hinting that the turtles would be guys in costumes (as in the three 1990-1993 movies) but with CGI faces.  (I believe a similar thing was done with the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are).

‘My Life in Ruins’ Trailer

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

My Life in Ruins, Nia Vardalos’s comeback movie after My Big Fat Greek Wedding, is premiering at the currently-running Tribeca Film Festival and just came out with a trailer.  And you know what?  It looks decent.  I never jumped on the Greek Wedding train while it was rolling (I saw it, and it was boring), but this one looks reasonably amusing.  Check it out:

Robert Rodriguez Announces ‘Sin City 2′, ‘Predator’ Reboot, ‘Machete’, and Two More

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

Robert Rodriguez, like his friend Quentin Tarantino, has a mysterious ailment that compels him to talk nonstop about upcoming projects that never seem to happen.  He was at it again this week at a press conference, hyping no less than five upcoming movies.

What do you think the chances are that all five happen within the next few years?

Rodriguez’s line-up:

Predators
A re-boot of the Predator series that he will apparently both direct and produce.

Machete
A full-length version of the fake trailer included in Grindhouse’s theatrical release, which starred Danny Trejo as the title character and Cheech Marin as a gun-toting priest and sported the tagline “This time, they f***ed with the wrong Mexican.”

Nerverackers
An original sci-fi movie Rodriguez has had in mind for a few years, that’s currently set up at Dimension Films with an expected 2010 release date.

The Jetsons
Not much is known other than his name is attached.

Sin City 2
Supposedly, it will be based on Frank Miller’s Sin City story “A Dame to Kill For”, which sees Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Hartigan (Bruce Willis) team up.  But Rourke’s schedule has gotten pretty busy and recently said “I don’t know, nor do I care” with regards to Sin City 2’s status.

Frankly, I’m most curious about Nerverackers, if only because the title is so cool.

‘The Stepfather’ Remake Shows Off a Teaser Poster

Fri, Apr 24, 2009

The Stepfather, like every horror movie of the past few years, is a remake.  The original Stepfather — about a new dad who likes to kill his new family when he finds out they’re not perfect — is famous for being an early starring role for Terry O’Quinn, best known now as Locke on Lost.

The new version stars Nip/Tuck’s Dylan Walsh, with the standard array of TV actors in the supporting cast: Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni, and Once and Again’s Sela Ward.  You can check out the reasonably cool new teaser poster below:

The Pattinson / Stewart Hookup Rumors May Not Be Exaggerated

Thu, Apr 23, 2009

I know I’ve taken a lot of flack around here for being a Twilight hater, so in the interest of proving my objectivity as a pure hardcore freelance journalist, I present to you some evidence that the idea that Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are hooking up realtime is, in fact, NOT as far-fetched as everyone may think.

In fact, there’s a fair chance that’s what’s actually going on.  Dig the word:

The media setups (Rob and Nikki, Jackson and Kristen) just aren’t flying with you smart little Twi-Twits anymore, and people are most definitely taking notice.  Life & Style reports there’s still drama with Nik and Robert, but we’re told that stuff is still being pushed to the media to help slowly “out” Kristen and Rob.  Apparently Pattz and Stew are getting so fed up with being told what (and who) to do all the time that they are “refusing to play along anymore.” How deelish!  Rob has been seen coming back from the direction of Kristen’s hotel at 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m., respectively, on different nights,” snitches our VBC eyes.

Conjecture of the highest sort, I know–but man, is it ever RATIONAL.  Pattinson and Stewart already have solid relationships with significant others, at least on the surface, so breaking it off any too quickly with the current ones is going to make the both of them look bad.  So there’s a steady but slow push to “phase out” the current S.Os to clear the way for the unstoppable god-emperor hookup of the twenty-first century (so far) the real-life Edward and Bella.

Is it actually happening?  Can’t say.  But there is a growing body of plausibility and evidence that suggests some hanky-panky is afoot, and one ignores plausibility at one’s own peril.

More Than You Ever Wanted To Know About Jessica Simpson

Thu, Apr 23, 2009

Twitter is a funny little invention, folks–it’s told us a whole lot more than we ever wanted to know about our favorite celebrities, and of course, given scheming opportunistic bloggers like myself plenty of useful cannon fodder to throw out.

Including nuggets of joy like THIS;

“On my way to workout with my trainer. Every time we have to do squats, and he yells at me, ‘Get lower like you’re in the club!’ I don’t squat in the club unless I am peeing!”

….

….um…yeah…thanks for that, Jess.  It’s that kind of ladylike charm that kept Nick on the hook for so long, huh?  Seriously, did anyone want to know where Jessica Simpson does her squatting?  Did anyone want to ever hear the word “squat” come out of her mouth?  Am even I squicked out for USING the word “squat” no less than three times in this paragraph?

No, no and yes, respectively.

Alicia Silverstone Coming Back…For Clueless Sequel??

Thu, Apr 23, 2009

You’ve GOT to be kidding me.

Okay, look–I remember Clueless, all right?  I was neck-deep in my sophomore year of high school when that thing blasted out into theatres and turned EVERYONE into some kind of insane Beverly Hills wannabe for twenty minutes.

So you can imagine my shock when I picked up on THIS number:

“They were talking about the script they’re working on and how exciting this is for them. It’s been a dream of Alicia’s to bring Cher back to the big screen. Amy is writing it, but Alicia is giving her tons of ideas.”

The “they” in question is Alicia Silverstone and writer / director Amy Heckerling, who were just seen shopping together recently.  Of all the things we didn’t need right now, a Clueless sequel has GOT to be one of them.

Beyonce Screeches Her Way Through Song–Denies Everything

Thu, Apr 23, 2009

The shrill, chalkboard-screech cries of “Daaaaaddyyyyy, make them STOOOOOP!” we all heard last Tuesday after Howard Stern played an “unedited sound-board” version of Beyonce singing “If I Were A Boy” on the Today show wasn’t just in our imagination, folks–Beyonce ran to daddy and demanded he make them stop talking smack about her.

And daddy was promptly there to back up little meal ticke–err…baby Beyonce…with a lovely quote, assuring all and sundry that Howard Stern was a lying sack of crap and that the recording was “obviously altered”. He followed up with:

“If no one took the time to look at the biggest Inauguration in the history of America then shame on them. If no one took the time to listen to Beyonce sing ‘America the Beautiful’ and ‘At Last’ at the Neighborhood Ball for the first dance of President Obama and the First Lady, and they question Beyonce’s vocal ability, they’ve gotta be an idiot.”

Yes, clearly, everyone who disagrees with Matthew Knowles is an idiot. There is no other option. Howard Stern is a lying sack of crap.  Anything else is just impossible.

Methinks the manager doth protest too much….

Terrence Howard STILL Upset Over Iron Man 2

Thu, Apr 23, 2009

You know, Terrence…buddy…I can understand how you’re hurt over getting aced out for the sequel to the biggest cash cow / buddy flick / comic book movie franchise in decades.  I know you’re hurt that Don Cheadle’s taking over for you.  I know that your wallet is practically committing suicide over the fact that it’ll probably NEVER be that well-stuffed again.  But seriously, man…move on.  They’re not letting you back in.  Find a new part, move on, and stop coming out with stuff like THIS:

“Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice. They didn’t keep their word. They didn’t honor my contract,.”

Oh, and then from the Veiled Threat Department:

“I believe in karma. When someone does something wrong, you don’t have to get them back….Everything right will return the favor for you.”

Eeeyipes, Terrence, go have some chamomile tea and count your now-nonstop residuals from Iron Man 1, huh?  Stop being scary for twenty minutes and just RELAX.  Better yet, call your agent and milk the fame before it’s gone.

Introducing…the Wolf Pack, plus New Moon Cast Video

Wed, Apr 22, 2009

USA Today just landed the first still photograph of the so-called Wolf Pack from Summit’s upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The story finds Bella (Kristen Stewart) growing closer to Jacob (Taylor Lautner) after her beloved Edward (Robert Pattinson) takes off abruptly.  (Of course, since Pattinson became an international heartthrob after Twilight came out, his role has been beefed up a little from the book.)

If you haven’t read New Moon or didn’t catch the eight hundred not-so-subtle clues in Twilight, Jacob is actually a werewolf.  And he has a lot of werewolf associates, including the four young shirtless actors you see below: Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, and Kiowa Gordon.

Teen girls, start arguing about who the hot one is…now.

Update: Check out ClevverTV’s Meet the Wolf Pack - Final New Moon Cast video!

‘The Hurt Locker’ Trailer Doesn’t Hurt at All

Wed, Apr 22, 2009

What do you know, a movie about Iraq that I might actually want to see.

The Hurt Locker, directed by Point Break‘ Kathryn Bigelow, is about an army bomb squad unit that difuses bombs.  That makes for a lot of really tense scenarios built-in, and if you add a dash of humor from its two likable leads Jeremy Renner (who also stars in the ABC show The Unusuals, which is actually a very cool show, which you should check out) and Anthony Mackie (Half Nelson), that all might add up to a good time in the theater.

Bigelow also directed Strange Days, a very underrated sci-fi movie from 1995, but saw her career stall after K-19: The Widowmaker flopped.  An Iraq movie likely isn’t to perform any miracles at the box office, but maybe you’ll decide you want to give it a shot after checking out the trailer:

That’s a Lot of Zooey Deschanel

Wed, Apr 22, 2009

The new poster for (500) Days of Summer that was just released might play like porn to Zooey Deschanel fans.  She stars in the flick as Summer (get it?), a girl who the naive young Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) hopelessly falls in love with.  Take a look:

And nope, I have no idea why “500″ is parenthesized.
