When Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest movie, Bruno, was submitted to the MPAA earlier this year, it got an NC-17 rating.
A lot of bloggers thought that was a big deal, but they didn’t understand the process: you can resubmit to the MPAA as much as you want, so naturally you start off with most of your really “adult” material kept in, and then whittle it down until the MPAA is satisfied. (That’s been Kevin Smith’s process on nearly every one of his movies.)
The latest word is that the newest cut of Bruno has finally landed on its R rating. The flick, which is aiming for Borat-like success, gets a high-profile summer release this year on July 10th.
