In what Twentieth-Century Fox is surely hoping is an April Fool’s Joke — but unfortunately, it’s not — a bootlegged copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine has made it online a full month before the movie is set to be released in theaters.
Early reports indicated that it was the final cut of the film, but trolling a few message boards will tell you that it’s a workprint with many special effects unfinished and some re-shot material also not included.
Still, it’s apparently high quality, un-watermarked, and un-timecoded, meaning whoever was responsible for the leak was somebody pretty deep into production. Or maybe their thieving, internet-savvy fourteen-year-old son.
Either way, it’s a nightmare at Fox headquarters today. At least if the movie opens below estimates they’ll have a really good excuse.
