The Green Hornet is going through a surprising amount of preproduction woes. After Seth Rogen climbed onboard and Sony gave it the go-ahead for a June 25, 2010 release, Stephen Chow signed on to both direct and play the Hornet’s sidekick Kato. But then, citing “creative differences,” Chow stepped out of the director’s spot — but stayed on as a co-star. Hitfix ran a story saying that Sony was getting cold feet and probably wouldn’t shoot in 2009 if at all, which they then retracted after Rogen himself e-mailed them saying that everyone was still working on the film and they just needed to hire a director.
The latest news — perhaps leaked on purpose to give the film some good press — is that Adam Sandler is set to make a cameo in the film playing a “surprise” superhero. Sandler and Rogen already know each other well: they just co-starred in Judd Apatow’s latest directorial effort, Funny People, which comes out this July.
