The soon-to-be 15-year-old Dakota Fanning is officially “in talks” to join the Twilight sequel New Moon, reports E! News. Fanning would play Jane, a member of Italy’s Volturi, a.k.a vampire royalty in the Twilight world; her character is described as petite and terrifying.
At least some Twilight fanatics already support the choice, as evidenced by this petition. But is it a good career move for Fanning, who typically plays the lead in her films and has been gravitating towards more mature roles like the clairvoyant she plays in the upcoming Push?
We’ll find out if she actually signs on soon enough. Pre-production is already underway on the film, which unites returning cast members Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner with new director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass). Come to think of it, coincidentally, the lead actress in Compass was also named Dakota.

hey guys… I think Dakota will do good in the movie… it does not mean that because she’s famous, she’s gonna ruin the film….and not because she’s blond she cant act as jane…what’s the use of cosmetics????!!!!! and remember Robert was already famous before he joined the twilight cast,…he was in the Harry Potter movie!!!!

Twilight should not be played by dakota fanning she would ruin the movie. The thing that made the movies so great was that the actors were not that well known so it was easier to picture them as the characters. But dakota fanning has been in too many well known films it would ruin the character jane, although she is a good actress she just isn’t the best fit in my opinion. I just keep picturing her as that little brat in the movie “uptown girls” with britny murphy. Just sayinggg =]

i think that Dakota fanning is an absolutely positively fantastic choice, i can imagine her doing really well as jane, and her qualities and skills as an actress will really do well in the role play of jane.
but i also have to say i have no idea who is playing her twin brother but i think that alexander ludwig would be awesome! (the seeker, race to witch mountain… etc)
also megan fox as leah clear water i think would be awesome

I think that they made a good choice just because she wont be in the movie much considering shes only in the end! i think this is a big mistake. i feel that in twilight they were trying to go with lesser known actors which made the movie seem more real. by throwing in these big movie actors its not going to have the same affect…:(

I think technically both of you were right. pale/light brown hair is sometimes called “blonde” or “dirty blond”. If you look at the picture above, Dakota does kind of have light brown hair. Either way she is a good fit and i’m glad she finally got the role

My Twilight source at the time mentioned Jane was blonde. Apparently it’s not too big of a deal since most of you don’t seem to remember her hair color, but I’ve corrected it in the article nonetheless. Dont put her in the movie. One thing that made Twilight so good was that all of the actor were not that famous until twilight. I really hope that Dakota Fanning does not get cast as Jane!
