Katie Holmes hasn’t done much since getting fired from the Batman franchise: one failed movie (Mad Money) and one TV guest appearance in a failed TV show (Eli Stone). But it seems she’s finally signed onto a project with some potential: The Extra Man, a new independent movie also starring Kevin Kline, John C. Reilly, and Paul Dano (of Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood).
The story follows a failed playwright (Kline) who works as a male escort for lonely New York City widows who winds up acting as a mentor to a younger, aspiring playwright (Dano). No word yet on what kind of character Holmes will play.
The movie will be directed by the team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, who hit paydirt with American Splendor and then made the ill-advised studio film The Nanny Diaries.
