Miley Blames Media For “Goofy Face” Flap

Fri, Feb 6, 2009

Celebrity Gossip

You know…after putting with all that “Oh, Miley’s such a GOOD GIRL!” bushwah for so long, it’s kinda nice, in a real schadenfreude sort of way, to see her finally taking a few broadsides, if for nothing else than to prove she’s human.

So Miley, as you might already know, was making “goofy faces” with friends the other day when Miley pulled a face that involved pulling the skin around her eyes backward in the commonly-recognized “slant eyes” posture.  Watchdog groups landed on her with both feet, and it didn’t take long for Miley’s press machine to issue frantic apologies.

Miley herself, meanwhile, is NOT so apologetic.  In fact, she blames the media for taking things “out of context” and “focusing on (her) personal life” and “trying to make (her) the new BAD GIRL”.

I’d like to pause and gently reassure Miley that making her the new “bad girl” TOTALLY wasn’t part of my Left Wing Media Conspiracy marching orders packet this week.

Check back next week, though!

This kind of sensationalism is the worst for children and parents to buy into. It sets our children up to be mindless media followers and star worshippers as they get older. Why are we teaching our children that such things are of the utmost importance? Why must we lead them astray? Don’t you realize that you are fueling a complete ripoff?

It’s media like this (in part) that convinced me to cancel my cable subscription and evaluate what I want my children to admire. It certainly isn’t some vain hussy dancing around on stage to a total act. Instead of dumbing your children down to the likes of media puppets Cyrus and the Jonass Bruders, why don’t you educate them about morality, history, country? Give them a damned book to read and take away the iPod and Nintendo DS. Then again, look at us. We’re the same exact way, aren’t we? Products of mass media addiction.

You know the thing that winds me up the most about this, the fact that Miley Cyrus and/or Hannah Montana is literally worshipped by young kids, and some most probably are chinese or japenese. This is a form of racism and its sick.

No offence to Miley Cyrus lovers but you know, why like someone who makes fun of peoples facial features

Miley, everyone looks different in their own wicked way-

annita! I think it`s important that you take a spelling class or english lesson, before you put your opinions for all people to read your crappy replies! it`s givig me a headache trying to figure out what the heck you`re trying to say.

i do agree with you Jamie and ty for seeing both sides and yes Miley is a rolemodel now and again your right if she feels she cant hold up to that expectation she needs to do sometihng else, Mcdolnalds is harsh i wouldnt even wish my worst enemy to work there lol

  5. stevea Says:

…ditto on Jamie. Wow, that was good.

  6. Jamie Says:

Hey Annita, how many times can she get off with the excuse of being young and making mistakes? I’ll have to agree that some things are not her fault, afterall some things are being decided by her parents and other people from her management team. Remember the naked pictures from Vanessa Hudgens? Well its safe to say that she learned from her mistake since we havent seen anything similar. Miley needs to realize that she is a role model and therefore will always be under the microscope. If she doesnt like that then she needs to get a job at McDonalds like all other 16 year olds in america and then she will be free to do whatever she wants.

  7. Annita Says:

your right Miley is a child, going into adulthood she makes mistakes, why dont we encourage her on the things she does right? instead of make a mockery of all shes done wrong? I was a teen once and i was the ” bad girl” at one time or anouther werent you? No offence but she is growing give her a chance please!

  8. stevea Says:

Well, one, I’m not even in the same media as Miley. I’m a writer. She’s barely a singer and don’t even get me started on her “acting” ability. And as for Kelly Clarkson, well, I never saw Kelly Clarkson posing nearly-nude for Annie Leibowitz or making “goofy faces” that strongly resemble the mocking of Asians. Maybe Kelly was a bit more MATURE than Miley, as evidenced by Miley’s refusal to take responsibility for her actions, instead blaming some amorphous media conspiracy that’s trying to ruin her for the sake of ratings. I’ll be the first to admit we in the media don’t always play fair. We can spin a story to make anyone look like a total demon without even telling a lie. That’s the power of words. But is it DELIBERATE? No. Miley’s giving us the material. We’re just using it.

  9. Annita Says:

Stevea, I know maybe you have been in themedia but look at all the media has done to othe ones that were new at one time, take for example Kelly Clarkson, she was cut because she won american ideal and yet she grew to become someones fav be it the songs she worte or perfomed, why cant Miley do the same thing? if anyone is plastci it would be the ones that say she is. Are you jealous now becaus your not in the media anymore or are you jealous because she is actually good at what she does? Miley is a great performer in anything, so in all fairness i strongly disagree with you alot!!!!

  10. stevea Says:

Hey, no one’s judging, Annita–I just happen to find it weak sauce that she’s blaming the MEDIA for calling attention to the photos she makes. Frankly, I don’t care if Miley ever sees this. If she does I’ll call her a plastic, manufactured kiddie-pop talent with no actual ability to her face. This isn’t FOR her. This is for YOU. You read this. You get my opinion of this sad little girl who stamps her feet and throws a hissy because big mean ol’ media dared call attention to this. I’ve been part of the media for a good while now. There IS no conspiracy. At least not on my level–I don’t know how many readers a week you have to average to get clearance into the Big Conspiracy, but I’m averaging a few million a week by now and I STILL haven’t got an orders packet.

  11. Annita Says:

Besides do you really think Miley sees any of this or any of these comments? I can answer that “no” so yea I will probably get trashed on for what I said but at least I can be here as one of her true friends and no age doesnt matter so lets not go there ok!

  12. Annita Says:

I think you all need to grow up Miley is a teenager and acts more grown then any of you trying to make her look bad or get your laughs out of whatever you make up about her, I am grown adn I am not ashamed to admit i love Miley Cyrus and I think its so sad that she is the one that keeps looking good when you are all way older then her! If I was to meet Miley i woul raise her hand and say victory to her for no letting you all get your way with her. Ever hear her song fly on te wall? if so listen to the words and stop judggeing!
