It might come as a surprise to you, but the first Twilight installment did very well. Unsettlingly well, in fact. It did SO WELL that major celebrity directors are currently duking it out over who gets to handle the THIRD installment, dubbed Eclipse.
That’s right, folks–New Moon hasn’t even been shot yet and we’re squabbling over Eclipse.
Here’s a rundown of some of the bizarre salient points in the upcoming Eclipse smackdown, based on an interview with producers Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger:
1. Currently duking it out for the directoral chair are Juan Antonio Bayona (formerly of The Orphanage) and James Mangold (of 3:10 to Yuma). Studio Summit Entertainment insists no meetings have been held yet, however.
2. No offers have gone out for anyone to take the roles of vampires Jane and Aro. None. Nada. Zilch. Goose Egg.
3. The role of Leah Clearwater is likely to be changed to Lady Not Appearing In This Film. That’s right, readers–she’s not even in the script for Eclipse. That’s from Melissa Rosenberg, writer of the Eclipse script.
A directorial brouhaha involving powers that never should have noticed this in the first place? Characters not getting translated from book to film? Casting decisions left unfilled? Something profoundly weird is going on in vampire franchise-land, folks…something that bears keeping an eye on.

why would they leave leah out have they read the books!!!!!
she plays a really big part in the forth book but sees also mention in the second and shes in the third if they leave her out the movie will be completely different to the books and what would be the point of watching something that has the potenshal of being really brillant but is just all luck warm

HOW CAN THEY CUT LEAH WHEN SHE PLAYS A HUGE ROLE IN BREAKING DAWN????????? I cant beleive it. and her reference with sam is huge

i really liked this article but it makes me mad they’re cutting so much! twilight was 2 hrs long already with as much stuff as they left out. new moon and elcipse could easily be made into 2 movies and breaking dawn into 2 movies! they COULD put in the detail that the fans are in love with! they’re making enough money to invest in that, AND they’ll satisfy the fans while rollin in dough.

Argh! This gets me so mad! Why do they have to change so much in the film? Twilight was already quite disappointing to me, with missing half of the meadow scene out, they left out the blood-type chapter, too, which was the first time Edward held Bella in his arms! It’s not good for the book either. People will see the films and then start saying bad things about the book! But, the books are great and the movie is nothing to be compared!
They should definitley keep Leah in, because she is fundamental! Even if she isn’t a main character and doesn’t appear in the book that much until the end, she is still important, especially to Jacob and his new wolf clang in Breaking Dawn. But, I agree that they definitely shouldn’t use Vanessa to play her. All the actors from disney will make the movie look fake!
And they should definitely keep the Laurent scene! We need to know how desperate Victoria is to find Bella, because she raises a whole army in Eclipse! If the true fans made the films, it would be excellent and true to the book. I hope some director of Twilight can see this website and see how they are dimolishing the movies!!!

They can’t cut out the bit where laurent comes back and gets attacked by the wolves… it would just ruin the whole movie if they cut that out! Seriously the movie is going to be so different from the book, they’ll skip like half the good parts in it! like with the movie twilight it missed the basics of the whole book, which made the movie a great dissapointment for me!
Hmm.. dunno if I want to see the new moon or eclipse movie.

stevea- there is no way actually. you have to have leah clearwater to understand sams reasoning and past. you also need her for the fourth book. cause she tells bella off.
and for edwards meadow, well ask any twilight fan and they will say their favorite part is the meadow. and in new moon you need it cause bella gets attacked by laurent and the wolves save her. and they cant cut that out!
they just cant that is like the best part (other then edward coming back) so there isnt any way. and i understand they are cutting costs but cutting out the most important parts arnt the way to go

BigTwilight–is there any way they can work AROUND Edward Meadows? Or Leah Clearwater, for that matter? They may just be looking to keep their costs contained and keep as few actors as possible involved.

There is no question, if they cut Leah, the rest of the movies will be all wrong. Even in the first movie they left owt “Edwards Meadow” and they du kinda need that in New Moon, *humph*, I wish I could du the Twilight Movies myself - I mean at lest I’d get them right,

Good point, Holly–the question remains, hwoever: why would they keep her out?

I believe they should put Leah in the ovie she plays a big role in the forth book and her presence is layer in the delicious cake known as eclipse. She is an important part of knowing Sam. his resoning.
