Apparently John Patrick Shanley has no problem with being on the receiving end of wrath on a cosmic scale, because when he was approached by a major name for a role in recent Oscar-nominated film Doubt, he turned down said name.
The name in question? None other than Oprah Winfrey herself.
That’s right–de facto head of the steadily growing Cult of Oprah was apparently hot to get in on some Catholic school action, but instead was turned away at the gate for relative no-name Viola Davis to take the role of Mrs. Miller. For those protesting such a statement, let’s face it–up against Oprah almost EVERYBODY is a no-name. Anyway, Oprah seems to have taken it well–at least, there haven’t been any fanatics in suicide vests at Shanley’s door yet, and none of the water near Shanley’s house has yet turned to blood…
…but with Oprah, who knows?
