The Twilight Saga: New Moon scored a whopping 5.8 million views in the 24 hours since its release — 4.2 million views on MySpace and 1.6 on MTV.

Since then, a couple of YouTube copies have scored another 5.4 million views combined.  Add up the subsequent views from MySpace and MTV, all the other YouTube copies, and all the other copies around the net, and I’m pretty sure everyone in the world has seen it at least eighty times.

It’s a decent trailer (basically just two early scenes from the movie awkwardly cut together), although I agree that the werewolf CGI looks a little Golden Compass-ish and not very frightening.  Read our first article (and watch the trailer) here.

Day-Lewis plays a famous film director struggling through his relationships with a ton of different women, including Marion Cotillard (his wife), Nicole Kidman (his muse), Penelope Cruz (his mistress), Judi Dench (his confidant), Kate Hudson (a journalist), Stacy Ferguson, a.k.a. Fergie (a whore), and Sophia Loren (his mother).

It’s based on a successful stage musical that was itself based on a different play that was inspired by Fredrico Fellini’s classic 1963 film 8 1/2.  Javier Bardem was set to star, but when he had to drop out thanks to too much on his plate, the production somehow landed the notoriously choosy and reluctant Day-Lewis.

All this is a lead up to say: watch the trailer.  It looks great.

This year’s movie, Whatever Works, got some good and some bad reviews when it premiered last month at the Tribeca Film Festival.  You can now check out the trailer to decide for yourself.  It has some legitimately funny moments, but it remains to be seen how well everything will tie together:

Gives off a very Matrix/eXistenz/I, Robot vibe.  Which is to say, it looks pretty cool.  Check it out:

As you’ll see, the movie also stars Rachel McAdams as apparently the only non-maid woman in the movie, and Body of Lies‘ Mark Strong as the bad guy.  It opens this Christmas.

It’s not a bad move, considering this is Disney’s first attempt at a hand-drawn cartoon since 2004’s blink-and-you-missed-it Home on the Range.  And it’s also not a bad move for them to go back to hand-drawn cartoons, since their non-Pixar computer-animated movies, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt, have struggled to make half the amount of money that the smallest Pixar movies make.

But it doesn’t look that great.  At least based on the one scene from the film we get in this trailer.  Take a look and judge for yourselves:

The Hurt Locker, directed by Point Break‘ Kathryn Bigelow, is about an army bomb squad unit that difuses bombs.  That makes for a lot of really tense scenarios built-in, and if you add a dash of humor from its two likable leads Jeremy Renner (who also stars in the ABC show The Unusuals, which is actually a very cool show, which you should check out) and Anthony Mackie (Half Nelson), that all might add up to a good time in the theater.

Bigelow also directed Strange Days, a very underrated sci-fi movie from 1995, but saw her career stall after K-19: The Widowmaker flopped.  An Iraq movie likely isn’t to perform any miracles at the box office, but maybe you’ll decide you want to give it a shot after checking out the trailer:

The weird thing is, as of today, the footage has been pulled from there and most other places online, so perhaps Bay jumped the gun and Paramount didn’t want the footage to get out quite yet.  By the time you read this, the YouTube embed might be disabled, but people are uploading it like wildfire so it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

The first two thirds is a full scene from the flick featuring Bumblebee, Shia LaBeouf, and Megan Fox undressing, which is then followed up with lots of rapid-fire cutting of Transformer battles — including some choice screencaps of Megatron, who Michael Bay originally claimed wouldn’t be in the film.

Really?  Idol?  I guess I shouldn’t complain, because the footage is pretty cool and contains our first look at Mike Myers’s character.  “The Germans call them…the Bastards.”  Check it out:

He also wins the pretentiousness award for only adding the “von” to his name after going to film school.

This looks like his first real genre film, and I’m pretty sure the trailer reveals the ending, but with this guy you never know.  See for yourself:

Anyway, Judge is back in the present day with Extract, a comedy starring Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, and Kristen Wiig.  And it looks hilarious.  Well, the trailer does.  The poster is nothing more than a badly-executed penis joke.  Check them both out below:

Starring the terrific Sam Rockwell, Moon is a terrific sci-fi movie about a man nearing the end of his three-year mission harvesting a fusion energy source on the moon.  But then something happens, and he discovers something, and I can’t really say any more except that fans of tight, well-done sci-fi that subverts genre cliches will love this.

The minimalist poster just came out, and underneath it you can check out the trailer, which reveals slightly more than I just did but mostly does an admirable job of not giving away the whole movie.

Sorry if I just made you pass out from sheer boredom.  Apparently, Sorority Row is trying to get back to the style of late-’90s horror flicks like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer and away from the torture-porn horror of the ’00s.

As worthy a cause as that is, it looks really bad.  Not even an amusing minor role from Carrie Fisher can spark any kind of interest in me at all.  The “prank” that sets off the movie is the most ludicrous, drawn-out plot device I’ve ever seen.  See it for yourself below.  (Pay close attention to the readings of lines like “You cheated on one Theta, you cheated on all Thetas,” “That boy needs to be taught a lesson,” and “But half the Greek system is in hooded gowns right now!”)

Feel free to quote me on that, Warner Bros.  Can’t wait for this:

Or is it a train wreck waiting to happen that relies on star personas that have already gotten old?

Yeah, it sounds pretty offbeat.  But I defy you not to think the trailer is mind-trippingly cool:

If the all-out Dreamworks marketing blitz hasn’t tricked you into wanting to see Monsters vs. Aliens yet, here’s something to sweeten the deal: reportedly, the movie will come attached to the full trailer of Where the Wild Things Are.

Wild Things is directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich), written by Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius) and of course based on the classic Maurice Sendak book.  A lucky spy wrote into CHUD.com describing the trailer thusly:

-Not a teaser, [but a] full 3-min trailer, scored to ‘Wake Up’ by Arcade Fire (it fits beautifully, and is either the 3rd or 4th time the band has agreed to license their music, won’t be in the actual film obviously)

-Try as I might, I can’t verbalize how I felt about the trailer beyond the most grandiose superlatives: ‘beautiful’ and ‘gorgeous’ and ‘breathtaking’, making me sound like Pete Hammond.

All we’ve seen so far are a few pictures (like the one above) and one leaked clip that was only a VFX test for the Wild Things’ facial CGI.  The film has been in the works for a long time: an internal battle over whether the screenplay made Max, the main boy, likable enough raged for a few months and threatened to take Jonze off the project, but apparently that’s been settled behind the scenes.

“I don’t even know.  I just know I’m hungry.  ALL THE TIME.”

I’d be very curious to know whether or not the decision to make Johnny Depp the sole above-the-title cast member — and only include Christian Bale (who plays Melvin Purvis, the guy hunting him down) in smaller print underneath him — was a result of Bale’s recent trouble.  Because everything we’ve heard about the project so far seemed to suggest Depp and Bale were co-headliners.

Not wanting to be outdone by its mutant rival, Star Trek also just came out with a new trailer, which you can check out below.  It’s much busier than the first version, and only gives us cursory glimpses of the supporting crew of the Enterprise.  We do get a lot more from Eric Bana’s villain Nemo, however.  If you liked the first trailer for the plot, then enjoy this one for the action:

Trek and Wolverine truly open the floodgates: afterwards, on consecutive weekends, moviegoers will be bombarded with Angels & Demons, Terminator Salvation, Up, and Land of the Lost.  And remember, new Transformers and Harry Potter movies are coming down the pipeline after all those.  If you’re not getting excited yet, you should be.

Anybody smell a quirky romantic comedy?

They’ve been steadily rolling out brief trailers for the Da Vinci Code sequel, but the following is our first lengthy look, a behind-the-scenes featurette focusing on some of the Illuminati mythology in the plot:

As far as I know, this is the first publicly-shown footage of Sherlock Holmes, Public Enemies, Amelia, and Whatever Works, and there’s also new footage from Up, Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and more.

Hey Fox, let’s officially release these three TV spots ASAP, okay?

The second of three 60-second previews for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, called “Brothers”, debuted last night on Fox and this time focused on Wolverine’s relationship with Sabertooth (Liev Schreiber) and his time in the army.  We also get glimpses of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Lynn Collins as Silver Fox.

They took the first preview down from YouTube and are rapidly taking down all copies of the second, but you can follow the breadcrumbs here or here.

If you’d rather just watch tonight’s third preview on TV and not hunt around for it the next day, it’ll be shown at some point during American Idol.

Or you could just watch them on the Internet the next day, like you’re doing right now.  This first video, called “Outcasts”, focuses on Wolverine’s childhood.  I always liked not knowing his history — I thought that was kind of the point of his character — but the movie seems to be taking its origin story straight from the Marvel comics canon, so it gets points for that.  Check it out:

The trailer looks surprisingly low-budget, and has a “Miley goes home and gets in touch with her country roots” storyline that seems better suited to a spin-off series.  But something tells me I’m not the target audience for this movie.  Check it out for yourself:

After years of Tarantino hyping this thing up, it’s actually gone through production rather fast — if everything goes smoothly, we get to see it in August.

The cast is eclectic: Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds) as the lead, Goku, James Marsters (Buffy) as Lord Piccolo, Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera) as Bulma, and Chow Yun-Fat (Crouching Tiger) as Master Roshi.  Oh, and Ernie Hudson, the guy from Ghostbusters, as “Master Mutaito”.  Presumably all this makes sense to fans of Dragonball Z.

A riff on A Christmas Carol, the flick stars Matthew McConaughey as a serial womanizer who over one night is visited by a series of ghosts who show him the error of his ways.  Michael Douglas has the Marley role; Emma Stone (The House Bunny) is the Ghost of Girlfriends Past; Noreen DeWulf (The Comebacks) is the Ghost of Girlfriends Present; and Jennifer Garner is McConaughey’s true love.

Yeah it sounds just a little cheesy, but the trailer does have a big laugh at the end.  Check it out:
