The 10 Best Moments from the 2018 Billboard Music Awards

By  |

Like many award shows this year, the 2018 Billboard Music Awards showcased flawless performances, heartfelt speeches, AND some surprisingly emotional moments. Kicking off our list of the 10 best moments from the night is none other than the host of the evening, Kelly Clarkson.

The songstress introduced the show with a powerful message honoring the victims of the recent Texas school shooting. While the producers of the show wanted her to hold a moment of silence, Kelly opted to hold a moment of ACTION. She fought back tears while encouraging everyone watching the show to do something about the issue of gun violence in their communities. It was the first of many incredibly moving moments throughout the show.

After the break, Kelly took to the stage to open the show by performing an impressive and delightful medley of songs by all of the show’s nominated artists, from Kendrick Lamar to Taylor Swift. Since the award show took place at the MGM in Las Vegas, the 36-year-old had a variety of Vegas show performers in lieu of regular backup dancers for the super fun set.

Another highlight of the show we did NOT see coming was T-Swizzle’s attendance! Not only was Tay present at the show, she also took home two awards throughout the night — one for Top Female Artist, and the other for Top Selling Album for Reputation. Considering the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer has completely opted out of awards shows for a couple years now, it was inspiring to see her reclaim her rightful place among her peers.

Another moment we absolutely loved was when Normani did an INCREDIBLY sexy dance break during her performance with Khalid for their song, “Love Lies.” We seriously cannot wait to see more performances like that from Mani!

The minute Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato stepped on the stage we immediately knew it was going to be an iconic moment. The powerhouse vocalists took turns doing what we can only call a straight-up BELT-OFF during their performance of “Fall In Line.” We were seriously not worthy enough to witness that!

Jennifer Lopez also gave an unforgettable performance with her stage debut of her latest single, “Dinero.” We would explain how incredible and flawless she was throughout the entire number, but let’s be real this is J-Lo we’re talking about, so that should obviously be a given.

One of the most powerful moments from the show came when the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School choir joined Khalid and Shawn Mendes on stage for their performance of “Youth.” There’s no way there was a dry eye in the house after that one.

Janet Jackson was presented with the Icon Award at the show, and in addition to blowing everyone away with her medley performance, she gave a beautiful speech inspired by the #MeToo movement. Janet, we seriously don’t deserve you, but we definitely need you.

K-Pop group BTS gave one of the most unforgettable performances of ALL TIME, thanks to their unbelievable choreography for their premiere of “Fake Love.” This is not your mama’s boy band.

TBH, we weren’t sure how anyone could even follow up an act like that? But then Salt-n-Pepa hit the stage to give us all an insanely fun performance of some of their greatest hits to close out the show. The ladies had everyone in the audience and at home dancing and singing along to every iconic track, from “Shoop” to “Push it” to “Whatta Man.”

Now THAT’S how you close out an awards show. And also make everyone wish it was the ’90s again.
