CONFIRMED: Beyoncé Set to Star in Disney’s Remake of The Lion King

By  |

Disney has announced the full voice cast for its upcoming live-action The Lion King remake by simply tweeting a photo of the cast with the caption, “#TheLionKing. 2019.” Now, before the official cast list came out, we already knew that Donald Glover would be starring as Simba. But now, the word is finally out and none other than BEYONCÉ will play Simba’s bestie and wife, Nala. We’ll give you a minute to freak out because the time has come and Beyoncé is making her comeback to the big screen, y’all!

Both Bey and Donald will be starring alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor as the movie’s evil villian, Scar, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mom, Sarabi, and James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Simba’s father, Mufasa.

However, the star-studded cast doesn’t end there! Comedians Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will voice everyone’s favorite meerkat and warthog duo, Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.

Naturally, this casual cast announcement has completely SHOOK Twitter with fans reacting to the news. One fan made a super bold prediction and said that the “Formation” songstress will totally receive an Oscar for her role in the remake. While another expressed their disgust with Disney remaking classic movies before immediately taking back their original reaction when they saw the cast list.

Twitter also had some witty comments from members of the Beyhive, with one user pointing out that we’ll all probably be blessed with a Yoncé x Childish Gambino collab:

Regardless of whether or not you’re into live-action remakes, there’s no denying the upcoming soundtrack will be FIRE. The only bad news? You’ll have to wait almost two years because the film is set for a July 19, 2019 release. So, umm, Disney, could you go ahead and release that Beyonce x Gambino collab for us already? That will definitely hold us over until then…
