12 of the Best Books You Were Forced to Read for School

By now, we’re sure you’ve feasted your eyes on the first trailer for The Giver, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift, Jeff Bridges and newbie Brenton Thwaites. Considering it was one of our favorite reads in junior high, we are PUMPED. (Though, how we’re going to wait five months until the movie adaptation hits theaters, we have no idea.)

Since the footage was released, we’ve been thinking about all of our fave stories that opened our eyes and our minds from middle/high school, the Lois Lowry book included. Obviously, Shakespeare’s a big deal and all, but we’re not talking about his plays here. No, no, these are full-blown novels that we are forever thankful we were forced to read for school. If they’re somehow NOT on your specific required reading lists, we’re basically mandating that you delve into them on your own time. Trust us on this.
