Unlike the One Direction Guys, These 6 Sets of Band Members Met in High School
July 23, 2010, is a very important date for every diehard One Direction fan. On that fateful day, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Liam Payne went from being solo contestants on The X-Factor to being a part of a group. And while the 1D boys’ start was unique at the time, many other groups followed suit; Little Mix and Fifth Harmony were also X-Factor-manufactured ensembles!
But while the whole becoming a band on television thing is definitely getting more and more common, not all groups started out that way. In fact, some acts have known each other for-eh-ver, and others joined forces after navigating the craziness that is high school together. Seeing as HS is filled with memorable events and life-defining moments, it’s no wonder why the following groups have so many great, relatable songs. #FriendshipGoals, people. #FriendshipGoals
Joel Madden, Benji Madden & Paul Thomas, Good Charlotte
Benji and Joel Madden have literally known each other their entire lives, but the start of Good Charlotte didn't come until the twins met bassist Paul Thomas while they were all attending La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. After they graduated, the three boys recruited guitarist Billy Martin to join. While many young bands don't actually think they're going to make it big, the GC guys knew they would. "The day we started the band, the question was when we were going to make it, not if we were gonna make it," Joel said.
