The Bad-Ass Way Bailee Madison Dealt with Her Rough Breakup

By  |

From launching campaigns to addressing societal labels, Bailee Madison is all about keeping it REAL with her fans. While most celebrities might try everything possible in order to dodge personal questions, the 16 year old prides herself in being an honest and open individual. So, as expected, when The Fosters star stopped by the Teen.com office last week to talk about the next season of Hallmark Channel’s Good Witch, it was legit like chatting with a lifelong friend. And like with most bestie convos, the topic of discuss quickly went in one direction — boys! Spoiler alert: Bailee is a total bad-ass, even when it comes to dealing with a super tough breakup.

A split is never easy, but being young and having everything you do under a microscope makes it that much tougher. When she and Forever in Your Mind singer Emery Kelly called it quits a few months ago, the teen initially found it really difficult to deal with

“It was hard because it was my first thing in the limelight; everyone saw it. I didn’t know at the time what it was, and then when things started happening personally that I couldn’t necessarily talk about, everyone started to form their own opinion,” she shared with us.

Bailee admitted that she stayed quiet on the subject for a while, but eventually found comfort in expressing her thoughts via her Tumblr. After seeing the positive feedback she received in regards to her #ImMoreThanAWord campaign , the bubbly brunette decided to open up even more and wrote a heartfelt and empowering blog post at 2 a.m. one day.

“I wrote the post and didn’t know what to expect. My mom’s always said, ‘If you touch one person then you did your job.’ So I was like, ‘If there’s one girl who’s in her bedroom tonight feeling the way I feel right now, maybe she won’t feel alone anymore and we can be there for each other.'”

Buuuut her ex wasn’t happy. Although she initially wanted to apologize and take down the post after he questioned her decision, Bailee decided that she had every right to speak her mind.

“I woke up the next day and realized I was still letting it have control over me. I realized recently if a guy goes out and shares in opinion, he’s applauded…and then when girls do it, they’re over-sharing; they’re the crazy ex.”

Since she addressed the double standard, Bailee has received hundreds of tweets, videos, messages, etc., from people who experienced the same thing in their own lives. But while so many have reached out to her post-blog, Emery is not one of them.

“I’ve learned you can’t really control other people’s actions and they way that they act,” she said when asked if they’ve spoken recently. “You should always be cordial, but there’s only so much you can do before it becomes toxic.”

Bailee then went into a mini rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” which perfectly describes just how amazing she really is. Love you, B!
