BABYMETAL Pays Tribute to Band Member Who Died Following Accident
What a sad way to start the year. Less than a month after the unexpected death of SHINee‘s Kim Jong-hyun, another musician died, leaving fans in disbelief; that musician is Mikio Fujioka.
The late 36-year-old star, known to fans by the nicknames Ko-Gami and The Little God, was the guitarist for Japanese heavy metal idol band BABYMETAL‘s Kami Band. He toured with the trio — consisting of Su-metal, Yuimetal & Moametal — since 2013, one year prior to the release of the group’s self-titled debut album.
According to the musicians wife (via NME), Ko-Gami fell from an observation deck on December 30 and later passed away from his injuries on January 5.
The news was also confirmed on the band’s official Twitter page:

“The ‘Little’ Guitar Kami of #BABYMETAL’s #Kamiband has passed away in the METAL GALAXIES,” the note began. “We hope that he is now with his GUITAR MASTER A.Holdsworth and enjoying an epic guitar session with him,” referring to the late Allan Holdsworth, who died at the age of 70 on April 16, 2017.
The band ended its note with lyrics from “The One,” a tune off the trio’s second studio album, METAL RESISTANCE. “We are the one // Together // We’re the only one // You are the one // Forever,” followed by the hashtags #RIP and #THEONE.
