Ariana Grande & James Corden Turn Titanic Into a Modern-Day Musical
If only the show could stayyyy for-EHHH-verrrrr this wayyyyy… Ariana Grande & James Corden turned the classic Titanic love story into a modern-day musical on The Late Late Show and, you guys, we are SO into it.
It’s been years since the Titanic soundtrack blessed our lives with the biggest Celine Dion hit ever. However, in 2018, the film’s soundtrack got a modern-day remake thanks to Ari and James. Late Monday night, the “No Tears Left to Cry” crooner joined the late-night show host for a live musical performance to celebrate the love story of Jack and Rose.
The duo performed 13 songs — yes, you heard us correctly, 13 songs — in front of nine different and iconic sets from the movie… and they did it all in one take! It was pretty impressive.
Ari and James kicked off the musical with Styx‘s “Come Sail Away” and then quickly moved on to Hall & Oates‘ song, “Rich Girl,” and Timbaland‘s “The Way I Are” before singing the Foo Fighters‘ “Learn to Fly” while recreating the iconic scene of Jack and Rose “flying” on the bow of the ship.
Right after that recreation, the two then dove right on into a number of today’s pop hits — with a few songs from the past — that pretty much described every single scene from here on out. They performed Lady Gaga‘s “Just Dance,” One Direction‘s “Steal My Girl,” Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” for that classic “draw me like one of your French girls, Jack” scene and, of course, for the steamy car scene, they sang Nelly‘s “Ride Wit Me.”
Immediately after the car scene, the singer and musical co-star went into their own rendition of Vanilla Ice‘s “Ice Ice Baby” for the iceberg scene, which then segued into Pitbull and Kesha‘s “Timber,” Rick Astley‘s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” *NSYNC‘s “Bye Bye Bye” and then they ended their musical with what has to be the most iconic song from a movie soundtrack EVER: Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”
Their harmonies throughout the whole musical were INCREDIBLE. We’re starting to think Ariana and James should start their own musical group or a two-person Broadway show or song, especially after that entire performance. This just makes us even more excited for Ari’s Carpool Karaoke episode!
