Ansel Elgort Scores Leading Role Opposite Shailene Woodley in ‘The Fault in Our Stars’
The Fault in Our Stars film adaptation is turning into some kind of Divergent spin-off! It was announced back in March that Shailene Woodley would be taking on the role of Hazel in the big screen adaptation of John Green‘s novel, and now Entertainment Weekly reports that Ansel Elgort has nabbed the lead male role of Augustus.
As you may know, Shailene and Ansel will be playing on-screen siblings in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s YA novel, Divergent. And now for The Fault in Our Stars, the two will play 16-year-old cancer patients who meet and fall in love in a support group as they both deal with their illness. Is it just us, or is this casting super weird? We’re sure they’ll make a great on-screen team, but really? They couldn’t find ANY other actors for this role? Hopefully these two get along, because they’re going to be seeing a lot of each other in the next few years.
Any ways, the author of the novel couldn’t be more thrilled for the movie now that the two leads have been cast. In a statement to EW, he said “Ansel is whip-smart and uber-charismatic and everything I dreamed for Augustus Waters,” John Green tells EW in an exclusive statement. “I am by nature a cautious pessimist, but I’ll just say it: Now that we have Shailene and Ansel, I am completely, unreservedly psyched about this movie.”
What do YOU think about this casting? Do you think he’s right for the part? Or will you be too weirded out knowing they brother and sister in another movie? Sound off in the comments section!
