The CW’s ‘The Selection’ Pilot Loses Lead Aimee Teegarden

Although the Hunger Games-esque YA book series, The Selection, was confirmed for a television pilot on The CW a couple weeks ago, its leading lady was still left up in the air. And it looks like it’ll stay that way for a little bit longer as Aimee Teegarden is no longer available for the production.

Rather than take on the part of a princess, Aimee will be working alongside extra-terrestrials on her new project, Oxygen. According to Deadline, the show “centers on Emery (played by Aimee), a teen girl who falls in love with an alien boy, one of nine of his kind integrated into a suburban high school.”

Last year, the former Friday Night Lights star filmed the first episode of The Selection, which focuses on a girl who’s selected by a lottery to compete in a not-so-friendly competition — a la Hunger Games — for a prince’s hand in marriage. However, since the show based on Kiera Cass’ dystopian trilogy was not picked up for a full season by the network at the time, there was no word if Aimee would reprise the role in the future.

Other futuristic pilots in the works: FOX drama Delirium, which is also based on popular young-adult novels. As of right now, Emma Roberts is the only talent who’s nailed down. More castings are to be announced in the near future.
