7 Adopted Celebrities Who Tracked Down Their Biological Parents
Fans of The Fosters know that one of the biggest choices an adopted child must make is whether or not they want to get to know their birth parents. This is a big plot point on the Freeform show — in addition to the millions of other things that happen every episode, of course.
At one point, two of the main characters, Mariana and Jesus, find out their biological father is a registered sex offender. And as if that isn’t bad enough, their mom ends up blackmailing their foster family for drug money. TV show or not, their fictional experience teaches an important lesson — finding your fam doesn’t always mean finding a happy ending, so don’t make the decision to seek out your birth parents lightly. The phrase “curiosity killed the cat” exists for a reason.
That’s why Rachel Crow, an X-Factor singer who was adopted after being born into an abusive home filled with drug-users, has absolutely no desire to make contact with her birth mother.
“It’s crazy because everybody is like, ‘She is not your real mom,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, she is!'” she said about her adoptive parent, who took her in when she was only 6 months old.
A lot of children feel the same way about the families who took them in and never pursue more information, but that’s not the case for everybody. Many people are haunted by the mystery of their past and feel like something in them is missing until they locate their biological family members — and that’s where these adopted celebrities come in.
Whether they lived with family friends or perfect strangers growing up, each of these Hollywood stars decided to take that next step and meet the people who are blood relatives. Some wanted a relationship and others just simply wanted to meet face-to-face, but every single one on the below list was successful in finding at least one of their birth parents.
Would you take in your friend's child if he/she couldn't afford to care for the baby alone? Because that's exactly what Lionel Richie did when he became Nicole's guardian when she was 5 years old and her legal parent when she was nine. Her birth parents knew Lionel could better provide for her — the singer does have a net worth of $200 million, after all — and he took her in.
Although Mrs. Joel Madden didn't have any contact with her birth mother growing up, she reached out to Karen Moss in 2008 when she had her first child, Harlow. Photos were taken of their meetup, but it's unclear whether the two are still in contact.
