Adam Rippon Reveals His Major Crush on Shawn Mendes on The Ellen Show
When it comes to Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon‘s heart, Shawn Mendes has won the gold.
Adam sat down to chat with Ellen DeGeneres for the very first time this week, and the breakout star athlete and Ellen totally fangirled over EACH OTHER before Ellen got down to business and directly asked Adam, who is single, “Who are your celebrity crushes so I can get that set up?”
As you can see in the clip, Adam confessed that his celeb crush usedt to be Harry Styles, but he’s since moved on to the “Treat You Better” crooner. In fact, Adam explained he was “sleeping on” Shawn Mendes for a while before he realized how cute he was. Adam also clarified to Ellen that “sleeping on” means he wasn’t paying enough attention to Shawn’s cuteness — not that he was literally sleeping on or with the “Stitches” singer. Although we’re sure he wishes that’s what it meant.
The audience was all about Adam’s choice of crush and hilarious commentary, but there is one thing that Ellen astutely pointed out that might get in the way of Adam’s journey to true love: Neither Harry nor Shawn identify as gay. Ellen suggested that Adam might have a better chance with another openly-gay man, which he hesitantly agreed with.
Of course, Ellen had other important things to chat with Adam about. Adam dished on the Winter Olympics and how his life has changed since winning a bronze medal. Adam kept it real, telling Ellen, “You know, like, I’m still the same hot mess I was 10 years ago. But I’m still the same person.” Of course, he was totally joking, and we love him even more for it.
Adam also proudly talked about the work he’s doing for GLAAD’s LGBTQ youth engagement programs, explaining, “I think going to the Olympics — it’s given me a really great platform to give a voice to people who don’t have one.” Ellen commended Adam for being proud of who he is, and surprised him with a check for $10,000 to help support his work.
Can Adam and Ellen have a joint talk show? Because this is one of the most iconic duos we’ve seen in a long time.
