12 Actresses Who Were Completely Degraded DURING an Audition
In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal, we are seeing a ton of female celebrities courageously come forward with their personal stories of sexual harassment, assault and rape. Although sexual assault occurs far too often, both inside and outside of Hollywood, it’s pretty startling to know just how many celebrity women have been victims themselves. Luckily, the more we shine a light on this very serious issue, the greater chance we have to initiate positive change.
Reese Witherspoon was one of the many actresses who shared details about her own experience, saying that she was assaulted by a director when she was just 16 years old. She said of the experience, “I felt [anger] at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment.” Unfortunately, this is the exact reason many other victims do not speak up. They fear it will cost them their job, and sometimes their entire reputation.
Reese is just one actress who has spoken out among many, and although there’s not a total count on how many celebrities have shared their stories, people were startled when a big percentage of celebs that they follow on social media joined in on the #MeToo movement. The #MeToo movement started YEARS ago, but picked up when Alyssa Milano tweeted out an image that said, “Me too. Suggested by a friend: “If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘me too.’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” 24 hours later, the hashtag was used over a half of a million times.
With a big magnifying glass placed over sexual assault since the recent scandal, it’s becoming more and more apparent how poorly women are treated in the workplace, and especially in Hollywood. In fact, many actresses were being treated terribly before they even landed a role, recalling times that they were assaulted, judged solely on their bodies, and forced to stand in the nude during auditions. Don’t believe us? Here are 12 actresses who have been degraded by producers during an audition:
After the Weinstein scandal broke, the Hunger Games actress came forward to describe her most degrading moment in her career, which, SHOCKER, happened during an audition.
At ELLE's Women in Hollywood event, Jennifer spoke of the humiliating experience, saying, "A female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me. And we all stood side-by-side with only paste-ons covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet."
