10 ’90s Rock Bands That Still Rock Today
When it comes to rock bands, the ’90s have it. Sure, the ’80s produced the likes of Green Day, Nine Inch Nails and Barenaked Ladies first, but you don’t realize how hard it was to narrow down this list of rock music groups from the 1990s to just ten names. (And when we say ‘rock,’ we mean all-encompassing rock, so punk rock, pop rock, soft rock, alternative rock, etc.) To prove to you how awesome the ’90s were, here are ten rock bands that originated in that particular decade that still rock today:
1. Counting Crows (1991)
RECENT PROJECTS — The band’s sixth studio album, Somewhere Under Wonderland, is set for a fall 2014 release.
2. Dave Matthews Band (1991)
RECENT PROJECTS — DMB’s 2014 summer tour kicked off this past May; returned to where it all began with deluxe vinyl/CD reissue of first album Remember Two Things, which originally dropped in 1993.
3. Weezer (1992)
RECENT PROJECTS — In January 2014, the band started to record its TENTH studio album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End, which is expected to be released in late 2014 or early 2015.
4. Jimmy Eat World (1993)
RECENT PROJECTS — Jimmy’s eighth studio album, Damage, dropped in June 2013.
5. Foo Fighters (1994)
RECENT PROJECTS — FF’s eighth album is tapped to be released in November 2014; Foo Fighters will commemorate the album — AND 20th anniversary! — with an HBO TV series, Sonic Highways.
6. Muse (1994)
RECENT PROJECTS — After the release of the group’s sixth album, The 2nd Law, in 2012, the guys went on The 2nd Law world tour through April 2014.
7 Coldplay (1996)
RECENT PROJECTS — Besides Ghost Stories, the band’s sixth studio album, the Chris Martin-led group was featured on the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
8. 3 Doors Down (1996)
RECENT PROJECTS — From the end of 2013 into 2014, 3DD set off on the Songs from the Basement acoustic tour. It is said that a new album is on the way this year.
9. Linkin Park (1996)
RECENT PROJECTS — The Hunting Party was just released, making it the sixth studio album from LP.
10. Yellowcard (1997)
RECENT PROJECTS — Not only is Yellowcard playing the entire Vans Warped tour, but a new record is set for release this coming fall.
