5SOS Beats Beyoncé & Jay-Z, Lands 3rd No. 1 Album with Youngblood
It’s official, #5SOSFam; your faves did what, at one point, seemed to be impossible. 5 Seconds of Summer‘s new album, Youngblood, officially debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, making them the first Australian band in HISTORY to have its first three albums go to numero uno in the United States. Oh, and did we mention that the boys casually beat out frickin’ Beyoncé and JAY-Z to reach this milestone?! Things 5SOS did: THAT!
Billboard reports that Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford sold 142,000 units of their third full-length studio album, according to Nielsen Music. The Carters, the name under which Bey & Jay released Everything is Love under, sold 123,000.
The race for the top spot on the chart was a tight one, with early predictions stating that the most famous couple in music would beat out the Australian rockers by a few thousand copies. And that’s where some of the most dedicated fans in the world came in. 5SOS support Twitter accounts organized streaming parties, came up with plans to maximize album sales, etc. — basically, they wanted the number one just as bad as Calum, Luke, Michael and Ashton. As Billboard notes, “Youngblood pulled out ahead in the last couple days of the tracking week thanks to a surge in album sales.” And we all know where this surge came from.
to think that 4 dudes from Western Sydney could even have a chance against two of the most successful artists of all time is insane. we would be the first band in history to have our first three albums go #1 in the US. we are so close. 5sos fam for life. pic.twitter.com/BeW73XFvGC

Earlier today, Ash wrote a message of gratitude to the thousands of fans who have supported, and continue to support, him and his band no matter what.
“I am leaving this note here to express my love for music and my love for you!” he captioned a picture on Instagram. “One thing I am certain about is my passion and ongoing belief that music, art and active expression in whatever form it may be is my true calling! The way you’ve backed 5SOS over the past 7 years and on the recent album has been truly incredible and is a definitive reminder that the ups and downs of a bands career are totally unpredictable. We are on an incredible high right now. And I am acknowledging it with all my being.
Thank you forever! #youngblood”
