13 Reasons Why Implies That It’s Okay That Justin Let Bryce Rape His Girlfriend
There are basically only a few characters on 13 Reasons Why who are not problematic, and Justin Foley (Brandon Flynn) is not one of them. The jock literally let his best friend, Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice), rape his girlfriend, Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe), and then lied to her face about it happening. J & J’s relationship is not only complicated, but it’s also extremely toxic, which is why we were shocked to see the official 13RW Twitter account seemingly glorifying the romance.
Last week, the show’s page tweeted a picture of Justin kissing Jessica’s cheek with the words “I’m Enough” printed across the top and “Always” attached.
While they didn’t say #relationshipgoals specifically, many people took this tweet as a promotion of the pairing, which, given what Justin let happen to Jessica, is obviously incredibly effed up.
I can't believe you're promoting this "couple", he let his friend to rape her while being unconscious and then lied about it. This is toxic pic.twitter.com/dfvWMMrQri

He pissed all over her life. He knowingly let Bryce rape her, hid that fact from her, assisted her on her way to alcoholism etc. Disgusting.

Please don't glamorize that relationship. You're sending a really terrible message by doing so. pic.twitter.com/BeY7Qmv9qE

This boy, troubled as he may be, let his friend rape his unconscious gf and hid this from her. How can you glamorise their relationship?

Perhaps we’re misinterpreting the meaning behind the tweet, but there’s been no word from the show to clarify their intentions if that’s the case.
Here’s what the 13 Reasons Why cast wants to happen on the show’s second season:
