Decoding All the Easter Eggs on 13 Reasons Why, Season 2
In case you’ve been living under a rock, 13 Reasons Why is back! The highly anticipated second season hit Netflix a little over a week ago and viewers have been shook ever since. Now that you’ve had some time to binge, can we PLEASE discuss all of those freaking Easter eggs?!
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
1. Sid Will Always Love Nancy
Justin refers to “Sid and Nancy” in a postcard he sent to Jess while on the run, which is a throwback to their Season 1 Halloween costumes.
2. Love Vigilantes
Season 1 starts with the song “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division. Season 2 begins with “Love Vigilantes” by New Order. After the lead singer of Joy Division committed suicide, the band reformed as New Order.
And, ICYMI, Alex has Joy Division posters in his bedroom, a connection to his own suicide attempt.
3: The Night We Met
The song that Hannah and Clay dance to on Season 1 plays at the school dance on the Season 2 finale.
4. Blue for Hannah
Each Polaroid that Zach secretly gave to Clay had messages in blue, similar to Hannah’s cassette tapes from Season 1, which were written in blue nail polish.
5. The Dates
The date of the Season 2 premiere is the same date the lead singer of Joy Division took his life. The Season 2 finale is set on the anniversary of the Columbine High School school shooting.
6. Where’s Dylan Minnette?
You’ll find him if you search for Clay Jensen’s address on Google Maps, and set your map to Street View. Now, the face is blurred out, but fans freaked out because it totally looks like Dylan.
7. Hannah’s tapes are online on the show and IRL
Hannah’s tapes are available for the viewers to listen to in their entirety. You’ll have to enter your age to gain access, due to their sensitive nature.
