10 Teen TV Shows from the Early ’00s That Are Still Worth Watching Today
As someone who became a teen in the 2000s, I’ve gotta say, teen shows from that era hold a special place in my pop culture-obsessed black hole of a heart. Whether it’s classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or cult hits like Freaks and Geeks, it was a time when primetime shows about teenagers were at its peak. While some of what I consider to be the best teen shows actually aired in the late 2000s, I’ve got to give props to the ones that came out in the first half of decade. Sure, it wasn’t all great: The clothes are largely ’90s leftovers or flash in the pan trends that we currently cringe at, the content slightly more tame, the casts were so inexcusably white and hetero, and the ridiculously-beautiful-nearly-thirty-year-old-actors-playing-high-school-sophomores trope was going full steam ahead. But there’s a sense of charm to the humbleness of an early 2000s teen show. Shows like Everwood, The OC and Gilmore Girls weren’t as sleek as their later 2000s TV teen siblings like Gossip Girl or Skins, but they had a lot of heart… and it was cool to have teen shows that were just about solving murders and turning into mythical creatures.
